Stafford refers is a market town but also the county town of Staffordshire in central north England which can trace its history back to Anglo Saxon times. It’s known for its locomotive industry, potteries and its shoemaking industry which can be traced back to the late-15th century. Stafford contains, (as shown in the photograph above) the oldest timber framed house in England.
Other notable buildings The Izaak Walton Cottage, as a seventeenth-century timber framed building in Shallowford, Chebsey, Boscobel House, a Grade II* listed building in the parish of Boscobel, and Chillington Hall, a Georgian country house near Brewood, designed between 1724 and 1785.
Stafford district was formed, like many other councils in England, in 1974 and was an amalgamation of four former districts, Stafford Municipal Borough, Stafford Rural District, Stone Rural District and Stone Urban District.
Stafford Borough Council is responsible for approving Stafford planning applications , permission and appeals in the area. They are based at Stafford Borough Council, Civic Centre, Riverside, Stafford, ST16 3AQ.
