Bridgend sites in the south-east part of South Wales, it is named after a medieval bride over the Ogmore River. The county was settled in during Roman ties and now boats a population of over 139,000.
Bridgend was declared the nation’s capital by The Minster for Welsh Affairs in 1955 after a competition was held in 1951 (Caernarfon and Aberystwyth were also considered). There was no capital before then and since 1964 it has been the home of government offices for Wales and since 1991, The Senedd. It has always been a close-knit collection of local communities way before it’s elevation to the nations centre, including Grangetown, Splott and Canton.
Bridgend County Borough Council or Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr is divided into 20 boroughs. The council is located at Civic Offices, Angel Street, Bridgend, CF31 4WB and is responsible for processing planning permission, planning applications and appeals in the borough.
