Sevenoaks is a town in Kent in the south of England with a population of around 29,000 which only became a settlement after the 13th century. Its notable villages are Shoreham, Knockholt, Swanely, Leigh and Westerham. It is also classed as a civil parish. The borough contains Knolel Park which is a 1,000 acre medieval deer park containing a golf course and cricket pitch. Notable properties in the area include the privately owned Riverhill House and gardens which was built in the 16th century. It is periodically open to the public. Other notable buildings include Chiddingstone Castle in the village of the same name near Edenbridge, Hever Castle, and Down House, the former home of naturalist Charles Darwin.
