West Northamptonshire is a county in the south of England which contains the town of Northampton, as well as towns such as Daventry, Brackley and Towcester, and the villages of Long Buckby and Brixworth, with a population of around 429,000. Northamptonshire is the centre of the British shoemaking industry, with notable manufacturers, Church, Grenson and Cheney and Barkers based there. It was also home to the original Dr Martens footwear brand.
The county of West Northamptonshire is relatively new, being formed in 2021 by the merger of the three former non-metropolitan districts of Northampton, Daventry, and South Northamptonshire. All of these are now abolished along with the former Northamptonshire County Council.
Notable buildings in West Northamptonshire include Althorp House, home to The Spencer family, including Lady Diana, former wife of Kind Charles, for more than 500 years. The house itself is one of the oldest in the county, dating to around 1688, and the grounds extend to more than 13,000 acres. Other notable buildings are the Grade 1 listed Tudor manor Lamport Hall, Holdenby Housel, built in 1538 and Delapré Abbey, a neo-classical mansion in Northampton established as a nunnery in 1145.
The borough is overseen by West Northamptonshire Council which is situated at One Angel Square, 4 Angel Street, Northampton, NN1 1ED. This is where all West Northampton planning permission, applications and appeals are dealt with.
Plande works right across the county including the smaller towns and villages.
