Amber Valley is a local local government district with borough status in East Derbyshire in the East Midlands, with a population of around 127,000. It’s the setting for the TV drama series Peak Practice and home to Thorntons’ chocolates. The area is semirural with a history of coal mining. Its notable towns are Alfreton, Belper, Heanor and Ripley, with its local borough council being based in Ripley. Like many areas, the local council was established in 1974 with the abolishment of five former counties, Alfreton Urban District, Belper Rural District, Belper Urban District, Heanor Urban District and Ripley Urban District. Notable buildings in Amber Valley include Grade II listed Heanor Town Hall, Grade I listed ruined Wingfield Manor and the neo-classical manor house Kedleston Hall.
The borough is governed by Amber Valley Borough Council with which operates from Town Hall, Market Place, Ripley, DE5 3BT. This is where all matters concerning the borough’s developments take place, including the local planning authority. It is also where Amber Valley planning permission and applications are processed.
Plande works across the city and its surrounding towns and villages including Ambergate, Duffield and Horsley.
