East Suffolk is part of Suffolk in the south east of England with a population of around 246,000. It is largely rural with some notable towns including Lowestoft, parts of the Ipswich urban area and the port of Felixstowe. The district was formed in 2019 when Suffolk Coastal ad Waveney merged. The area has a long coastline and includes the coastal towns of Beccles, and Southwold. Large swathes of the county are classed as areas of outstanding natural beauty. Notable buildings include the 12th century Framlington Castle, Melford Hall, a Tudor mansion with a panelled banqueting hall, owned by the National Trust and the noted, contemporary design eco-house, Gainsborough House in Necton, awarded the East Suffolk Quality of Place award in 2020.
The city is governed by East Suffolk Council which operates from East Suffolk House, Station Road, Melton, Woodbridge, IP12 1RT. This is where all matters concerning the county’s developments take place, including the local planning authority. It is also where East Suffolk planning permission is granted.
Plande works across the county and its surrounding towns and villages.
