Herefordshire is an historic ceremonial county in the West Midlands with a population of around 187,000. The county contains the rivers Lugg and Wye with the Wye Valley stretching into Wales. The city of Hereford is the county town, with other notable towns being Leominster, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye, Kington and Bromyard. Herefordshire’s local government district which was established in 1889. In 1974 in merged with Worcester to form Hereford and Worcester, and that was abolished in 1974 when Herefordshire Council was formed as a non-metropolitan county. Notable buildings in the county include Grade I* listed Hereford Cathedral, the Black and White House Museum which was built in 1621, Rotherwas Chapel, and Burton Court, a Grade II* listed English country manor house in the Parish of Eardisland.
